Random advice to self: Welcome

Welcome to the first edition of my semi-regular newsletter, Random advice to self. If you’re receiving this, it’s because, at some point, you kindly signed up to receive updates from me.

(If, after reading, that seems like a terrible decision, you’ll find an unsubscribe link at the bottom of this email!).

You might have signed up in the distant past - the idea of a newsletter has been on the cards for a long time now! Or perhaps it was more recent. Either way, it’s really nice to have you here.

I wanted to use this first edition to give a little taste of what you can expect from future newsletters.

Random advice to self

You might already know that the name of my business, Mind & Co, started life as the title of a personal blog about psychology at work. Similarly, the name of this newsletter started life as the title of a note on my phone, where I captured all sorts of advice, lightbulb moments and reminders to help me stay well and at my best at work.

Some of these nuggets were from my own musings, others from books or talks, and others from generous friends and colleagues. The collection is vast, and I’m discovering, or re-discovering, more each week.

I’ll be sharing these thoughts on thriving at work, in the hope you might find them useful too.

Free tools and resources

Occasionally, I’ll also share specific tools and resources that I’ve found useful, either for myself or for the people I work with as a coach.

As a subscriber, you’ll also get a special discount on my courses and workshops as a thank you for being here.

Deliberate imperfection

I’m a recovering perfectionist. And this is not a humble-brag - perfectionism has given me some great things, but it can also stop me from doing things I really care about. Usually for fear of not being 'good enough'. (Sound familiar?)

I’m consciously unlearning this perfectionism. For this newsletter, that means giving myself permission to try things out and see how it goes, rather than get things ‘right’ first time. So you might see different formats, frequencies or tone of voice as I figure out my way of doing things. Feel free to reply to any email with your thoughts or feedback.

Honesty

It’s really important to me that I share my honest thoughts and experiences with you. Both for my own wellbeing (it feels better when I can be myself!), and for yours. We’re all human, and our minds trip us up sometimes. Pretending otherwise just enforces unrealistic expectations about how perfectly logical, calm, happy etc. our minds should be. In my experience, this only adds to any struggle we might be having.

That means you’ll see some behind-the-scenes messiness and vulnerability here. Some of it will resonate, some of it won’t. Take what’s useful for you :)

Thank you

If you’re still reading, and want to stay subscribed, I’m really glad to have you here. You’ll now start to receive my newsletters. I hope you enjoy reading them!
