I have one of those brains that picks up a tune and it goes round and round for days.
At the moment it’s ‘Here Comes The Sun’ by The Beatles. I watched a clip of a musical flash mob singing this in a job centre in Spain. I found it really moving. The song has been playing on loop in my brain for a week now.
George Harrison had a tough start of 1969 – he’d quit The Beatles (temporarily), been arrested, and had his tonsils removed. He said ‘it seems as if winter in England goes on forever, by the time spring comes you really deserve it.’
So on a nice spring day he decided to bunk off meetings with the band’s accountants, and go hang out in Eric Clapton’s garden. That’s where he wrote ‘Here Comes The Sun’.
As of September 2019, it was the most streamed Beatles song in the UK, with over 50 million plays.
Great things can happen when we take a break.
